Cordale Housing Association Reflects on a Year of Progress at AGM
Cordale Housing Association held its Annual General Meeting in Renton last night to reflect on a year of significant progress.
This year has been marked by both achievement and deep sadness for the organisation. In June, Martin Walker, who served as Chair of the Management Committee with dedication and a lifelong commitment to improving life in Renton, passed away. His contribution to Cordale and the wider community was described as “immeasurable”, and his commitment to the community will be remembered as part of Cordale’s ongoing work.
A highlight of the year was the start and successful completion of 25 much-needed new homes at Dalquhurn. The £5.4 million development, built by AS Homes with support from over £2.6 million in Scottish Government funding, includes a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses designed to modern energy efficiency standards – providing warm, sustainable homes for local families and supporting Scotland’s journey to net zero.
Cordale also invested over £1.1 million in improving existing homes, delivering new kitchens, bathrooms, boilers, windows and medical adaptations to ensure tenants live in safe, warm, and well-maintained homes. Our most recent tenant satisfaction survey shows that satisfaction with the quality of homes has risen to 86.4% – an increase of more than seven percentage points on the previous tenant survey.
Alongside investment in bricks and mortar, Cordale has continued its close work with the community, providing support to local schools, groups, and families. From tackling fuel poverty through partnerships with Scarf and Lightning Reach, to funding local food and wellbeing projects, the association has remained deeply rooted in the Renton community.
Speaking at the AGM, Management Committee Chair Margaret McCallion thanked tenants, staff and partners for their ongoing support:
“Looking back, there is much to be proud of. We are continuing to invest in safe, affordable homes and to support the people and places that make Renton a strong, vibrant community. As we look ahead, we are committed to building on this work, while ensuring tenants’ voices remain at the heart of everything we do.”
