Tribute to Martin Walker, Chair of Cordale Housing Association’s Management Committee
We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Martin Walker, Chair of Cordale Housing Association’s Management Committee.
Martin was a dedicated and influential member of the Committee for over 14 years, taking on the role of Chair in September 2020. He initially joined “to give something back to the community” and was driven by a clear ambition to support positive change in Renton.
Martin was passionate about the regeneration of Renton and firmly believed in the importance of providing high-quality, affordable housing for local people. Martin was unwavering in his desire to do the best for Renton and Cordale tenants. Under Martin’s leadership, Cordale developed a new office in Main Street that revitalised the centre of the village, while Cordale are in the process of completing 25 new affordable homes in Dalquhurn, Renton. Beyond new homes, Martin championed efforts to create job opportunities for local people, support older residents to live independently, and invest in services that strengthen the wider community.
The recent Dalquhurn development was particularly important to Martin. He described it as a “long-term vision of the Cordale Committee to develop homes and help transform the Dalquhurn area,” and expressed his pride in seeing the project move forward, saying:
“We currently provide over 500 high-quality social homes in Renton, and I am thrilled to see us creating a fantastic new development for the community. I want to thank the whole team in getting the project underway.”
We are grateful that Martin was able to see this vision become a reality. His remarkable commitment, contributions, and kindness will be sorely missed by everyone at Cordale and Caledonia Housing Association, as well as the wider Renton community.
Our thoughts are with Martin’s family and friends at this very sad time.
