Bellsmyre and Caledonia Housing Associations in Talks Over Potential Partnership
Date Posted: 30th of June 2014
Bellsmyre Housing Association and Caledonia Housing Association have recently started talks on forming a partnership between the two organisations.
Bellsmyre decided last year to start looking for a partner with a clear view to increasing investment in the area, protecting rent levels, enhancing services and improving governance. Following a selection process, Bellsmyre decided to select Caledonia as its preferred partner for ongoing discussions.
John Mulholland, Bellsmyre Housing Association, Interim Chief Executive said, “Our two organisations share similar values and a strong commitment to improving the lives of our customers through the services we provide.”
“The possibility of forming a partnership with Caledonia could create exciting opportunities to broaden the range of services available to our customers and improve the quality of the homes that we provide whilst maintaining the Association’s identity and local service provision. It would also bring mutual benefits for both organisations, for example through sharing expertise and development opportunities. We are committed to putting our tenants at the heart of all major decisions like this and we will consult closely with them as we continue discussions with Caledonia Housing Association over the coming months.”
Julie Cosgrove, Caledonia Housing Association Chief Executive, said, “We are in the early stages of talks with Bellsmyre which involve exploring the benefits for both organisations of forming a partnership.”
“Caledonia has a great range of services and expertise which it can bring to a partnership with Bellsmyre and its customers. By bringing together the operations and landlord services of CHA and BHA we would ensure that both organisations are in the strongest possible position to respond to very challenging times ahead.”
The Caledonia Housing Association Group is one of Scotland’s leading providers of high quality affordable homes for people in housing need. With over 4000 homes owned and managed across Tayside, Fife, the Highlands, and also West Dunbartonshire through its partner Cordale Housing Association, it is also one of Scotland’s largest housing associations. Late last month Caledonia Housing Association scooped the title ‘Housing Association of the Year’ at the 2014 Scottish Home Awards held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
Bellsmyre Housing Association was formed in 1992 and has a diverse customer base. The association owns and manages 600 homes within the Bellsmyre area of Dumbarton; in addition, it also provides a management/factoring service for over 480 owner-occupiers in the area.
