A Brief History Of Strahleven Artizanz

Totem Pole

The Renton based history and heritage society Strathleven Artizans was formed in 2004 by a group of volunteers who were interested in combining local history with community regeneration by delivering services not only to local projects such as Cordale Housing and The Carman Centre but more recently to a vast number organizations all over Scotland.

Since the launch of our web site at the start of this year Strathleven Artizans have been attracting attention from all over the world, such names as Alex Salmond (MSP), Lord Elgin (Head of the Bruce Clan) and Mr Harry McAllister (Head of clan societies U.S.A) are but a few who have expressed an interest in our project.

After just completing a very successful summer activities program which involved giving the children of the village daily activities to enjoy (cycling and sight seeing tours), these children also had the opportunity to learn new skills such as hand carving and kite building.

At present we are working closely with The Carman Centre in particular Mr Drew McKeon and Mr Archie Thomson (community development officer) with the purpose of achieving closer links with older generations of the village through joint youth and adult projects such as boat building, painting and hand carving. There is also a proposed fortnightly history surgery coming soon where locals are invited to spend an afternoon with our very own historian Mr Phil Graham.

As always we actively look for more volunteers to realize our objectives. So if you think you have something to offer don’t hesitate in contacting us on 01389 604460 or visit us online at www.strathlevenartizans.co.uk
